Stories Break Silence

Stories break Silence: A Book Project

Submit Your Story | Deadline: 29th November, 2015

Stories Break Silence - SLF book project 2015The Silver Lining Foundation has always maintained the aim of providing support and education through advocacy to end discrimination against marginalized groups, such as the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community in Trinidad and Tobago.

Stories Break Silence is a project based on this longstanding aim.

Silences prevail in the Caribbean that have denied and masked the existence of the LGBT community. This invisibility is not just a lack of something, be it attention, recognition or permission, but a deliberate silencing of the voices, stories and experiences of persons in the Caribbean who dare to break gender norms, or to love others of the same sex. This collection seeks to break this silence and change dominant ideas about Caribbean sexualities. This edited collection of stories seeks the voices of LGBT or otherwise identified persons who have been silenced and wish to be no longer. These stories will show young persons that experiences of marginalization are not unique; they are not alone. These stories will challenge the norms that deny the existence of LGBT persons in the Caribbean.
